What
is
Royalex® ABS?
Royalex (acrylonatrile butadeine styrine)
is a lamination of cross-linked vinyl, ABS plastic, and ABS
closed-cell foam.
The outside vinyl layers give the boat its color and protect
it from sunlight. The ABS layers next to the vinyl skins are
stress layers. The inner ABS foam core provides buoyancy, insulation,
noise absorption, and structural rigidity (sandwich effect).
All these layers are fused together by vulcanization. Royalex
can take severe deformation without breaking.

All plastics are not created equal...
Royalex is superior to polyethylene.
Many polyethylene canoes look like Royalex canoes, but it's
important to realize that lower- priced polyethylene canoes
are expensive when you consider their many shortcomings...
Polyethylene
is a soft material able to withstand far less wear and tear.
Because
it does not withstand ultraviolet rays well, it breaks down
over time and becomes brittle.
Polyethylene
boats tend to lose their shape in hot climates, especially when
strapped down on car racks.
Polyethylene
canoes are substantially heavier than Royalex canoes.
Unlike
Royalex canoes, rotomolded polyethylene boats cannot be repaired.
Bonding agents like urethane adhesives and epoxy resins do not
adhere to polyethylene.
If you want a canoe that can
grow with your interests and needs, an Easy Rider Royalex canoe
is your best choice. |

Royalex® ABS Material...
Light Weight, Durability, Expedition Strength
Easy
Rider Royalex® ABS Canoes
Super-tough and best value for your
recreational dollar...
Royalex ABS canoes are the leading choice for family,
whitewater, and expedition use. We use the strongest Royalex
sheet construction in the industry and spare no expense in
the outfitting, so you get the toughest, longest-lasting canoe.
Manufactured in a thermo/vacuum-forming process, our Royalex®
canoes feature a heavy-duty expedition-grade construction.
Wear and stress areas are reinforced. Triple reinforcements
(extra foam layers) in the midship together with shallow-V
hulls eliminate undesirable oilcanning. For abrasion protection,
the outside vinyl skins around the bow and stern are doubled
in thickness.
Easy Rider's commitment is to manufacture expedition-grade
canoes that will last a lifetime. Expand your paddling horizons...
be that on leisurely trips near home or adventurous journeys
in the hinterlands of Canada.

Royalex is super-tough...
The various ABS and vinyl layers of the Royalex sheet are
vulcanized and fused like a rubber tire. There is no risk
of delamination under impact. Royalex canoes are so tough
they can be pounded with sledge hammers or bounced against
boulders without breaking. Royalex is the premium material
for whitewater and expedition boats.

Royalex is buoyant & warm...
A Royalex canoe is double walled, with an internal ABS foam
core from end to end. The foam core provides structural rigidity
and insulates boaters from cold water. It also provides buoyancy,
eliminating the need for float chambers.

Royalex is smooth...
A Royalex
canoe is very smooth inside and out. This skin-friendly material
is appreciated by paddlers in bathing suits and by families
with children. Toddlers moving around the canoe won't be hurt
by rivets, braces, ribs...

Royalex is quiet...
It's the most noise-absorbent canoe material, a feature appreciated
by photographers, naturalists, fishermen...

Royalex is lightweight...
Royalex canoes are easily carried by a single person and are
a treat for solo paddlers.

Royalex is repairable...
Although Royalex is nearly indestructible, it is comforting
to know that it is repairable. Should a tear occur, it can
be repaired with fiberglass and epoxy resin.

Royalex is maintenance-free...
Royalex canoes may be left out in the weather year-round,
the material will not absorb moisture. The vinyl skins on
either side will not be broken down by the ultraviolet rays
of the sun.

Royalex canoes can be retrofitted...
Vinyl cement, urethane adhesives, and epoxy resins bond to
Royalex. Therefore, a variety of desirable options can be
added to your Easy Rider Royalex canoe at the time of purchase
or years later. |
